May 9th, 2012 - Frank Selby

Our speaker for the May 9th meeting is Frank Selby. Frank began Fly Fishing as a young boy. He was introduced to the sport by his uncle, a syndicated newspaper sportswriter, living in the Midwest. Fishing the streams were, and are, his first love, especially those in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.

He moved to Huntington Beach, California, in 1956. With his proximity to the ocean, Frank soon began experimenting with various fly’s and salt water fishing techniques. Thus began his love for saltwater fly fishing. Not only could he fish close to home, but he could do it all year round.

Frank then branched out to fishing bays, estuaries, or anywhere he thought the fishing might be good. He has fished fresh and saltwater throughout most of the world, and has enjoyed every moment. He could be fishing for Silvers, Humpys, Grayling, Rainbows, or Pike, on some un-dammed water on the Alagnak River, in the heart of Bristol Bay’s Watershed, Alaska – his favorite places are right here in the USA.
